O. pterocarpa is a fairly large tree that can reach 35 m in height and a diameter of 80 cm. It is scarce in its native range (known to be found in Mexico, Costa Rica, and Panama, it is thought that the species’ natural distribution range may include all of Central America). The wood of O. pterocarpa is not considered particularly valuable, but it is used locally for building construction.
